The Sudanese Civil Defense said the death toll from the floods and rains rose to 83 and more than 40,000 houses collapsed.

Earlier, the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that “more than 25,000 people have been affected and 2,500 Sudanese have been displaced by heavy rains and flooding in the Al Manakil region in central Sudan.” The office said in a statement that “between August 16 and 19, heavy rains and heavy rains caused the displacement of more than 2,500 people in the Al Manakil area of ​​Al Jazeera state,” noting that “displaced persons are taking refuge in 4 public schools.” and a playground in the city of Al-Manakil, and they need shelter, food, non-food items and water.”

He stated that “ongoing heavy rains have affected 17 villages in the Al Manakil region, and 9 villages are still surrounded by torrential waters, and more than 25,000 people have been affected by this disaster in the area.” He indicated that “humanitarian organizations are on site to assess the situation and provide assistance as soon as the roads are open.”

The autumn rainy season in Sudan lasts from June to October of each year and during this period heavy rains usually fall.
