Former U.S. President Donald Trump called on Republicans to “remove Republican Senator Mitch McConnell from his Senate Minority Leadership,” accusing him of being “a pawn in the hands of the Democrats.”

And he believed in a statement, in an article published in The Federalist, that “Mitch McConnell is not the leader of the opposition, he is a pawn for the Democrats to get what they want.

Trump accused McConnell of giving the “radical left the trillions of dollars they continually demand,” criticizing him for what he saw as “failing to stop passage of the Tax, Climate, and Healthcare Act, known as the Inflation Reduction Act.”

Trump has been at odds with McConnell since the Senate leader denounced the former president in Congress for his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol. In a statement a few days ago, Trump criticized McConnell for statements in the Senate about the “quality of Republican candidates,” some of whom Trump chose.
