The press office of the Holy See said in a statement today that Pope Francis’ statements about the conflict in Ukraine should be seen as a voice in defense of human life and not as a political position.
The statement said that the Pope and other representatives of the Vatican have spoken several times about the hostilities in Ukraine.
He added: “The purpose of these statements is to invite priests and believers to pray and solidarity and try to establish peace. This has happened more than once and also in recent days. Public discussions about the political importance that should be given to such speeches. “
He continued: In this regard, we emphasize that the Pope’s speech on this dramatic issue should be considered as a voice in defense of human life and values related to it, and not as a political position. Pope Francis’ statements have been unequivocal in his condemnation of it as morally unjust, unacceptable, barbaric, senseless, hateful and blasphemous.
The Vatican’s statement came after Ukraine’s foreign ministry last week summoned Pope Francis’ diplomatic envoy to investigate the pope’s remarks about the murder of Russian journalist Daria Dogina.
It is worth noting that Pope Francis expressed his sorrow for his death before an audience of the faithful, noting that “innocents paid the price of war”.
