An oil tanker got stuck in the Suez Canal and disrupted navigation!

A ship ran aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal late at night on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, halting navigation in the strategic waterway.

According to Egyptian media, an oil tanker with the flag of Singapore, more than 250 meters long, has run aground in the channel, which happened to the Panamanian ship “Orgior”.

These sources pointed out that the ship’s malfunction has led to the complete stop of navigation in the channel, and noted that behind it there are disabled ships in the area above the Shahid Ahmad Hamdi tunnel.

In the first official statement, Suez Canal Authority spokesman George Safwat said authorities were working to refloat the ship after it sank.

It is worth mentioning that on March 23, 2021, the ship “Oregoin” ran aground in the Suez Canal and obstructed navigation in the most famous sea trade corridor for 6 days.

At that time, the number of ships stranded on both sides of the Suez Canal reached 422 commercial ships, including goods, merchandise and livestock, and tankers of oil, gas and petroleum derivatives.

The Suez Canal is one of the most important waterways in the world, and about 12% of the world’s trade passes through it.
