Strike of judicial officials threatens the resumption of judicial activity

A strike called by the two unions of judicial employees threatens this Thursday to disrupt the normal functioning of justice on the day of the reopening of the courts, after the summer judicial vacation period.

The president of the Union of Judicial Employees (SFJ), António Marçal, warned that, with the strike this Thursday and Friday, the reopening of the courts “will start again with more delays, from postponed procedures to stopped non-urgent processes, which will cause many damages to the citizens”.

Media processes, trials, strikes and lack of magistrates mark the reopening of the courts

The union leader stated that “The main objective of the strike is to sensitize the user of justice” to the problems of the sector and judicial officials, with emphasis on the lack of human resources.

Striking judicial officials protest against the Court staff shortages, stagnant careers and promotions and what they mean by repeated action outside the law by the Directorate General for the Administration of Justice (DGAJ).

The union wants the court to bar future illegalities in the sheriff’s movement

Regarding the latest movement of bailiffs, António Marçal has pointed out that “there are courts that are in a very precarious situation”, since the DGAJ “withdrew essential elements for their operation, without taking care to replace them with others”.

The strike was also called by the Union of Justice Officials (SOJ), which has been highly critical of the government’s policy for the sector.
