The Queen will not attend the Highland Games this Saturday in Scotland. The decision will be based on the Queen’s mobility problems since last year and was made with Her Majesty’s comfort in mind, reports Sky News.
However, Prince Charles is expected to attend the event.
The Highland Games are hundreds of years old and celebrate Scottish and Celtic culture, starting in May and continuing through September. The queen is a regular presence at this event.
Next week the Queen will receive the person who succeeds Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the monarch “will receive Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday 6 September at Balmoral,” a meeting “followed by an audience with the new prime minister.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also return to the UK in the coming days. Harry and Meghan’s trip is due to charitable causes and then the couple will travel to Germany for an Invictus Games event.
