U.S. Army Brigadier General and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Political Military Affairs Mark Kimmitt said, “August 19, the United States pledged another $775 million in military assistance to Ukraine. rockets, 105-mm howitzers and smaller caliber ammunition,” he said, noting that “NATO has to deal with reducing the stocks of its advanced systems.”

According to the general, this will lead to increased pressure from supporting countries, continued inflation and a decrease in support among the population, given that “Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must recognize that supply cuts will be detrimental to his army, and not just to battlefield operations. but will send a signal to the people of Ukraine to cut back on foreign support.”

He explained that “starting a diplomatic settlement would be unpleasant and may seem defeatist, but there is little chance of getting out of the current quagmire, so it may be better to start negotiations now, and not later.”
