New British Prime Minister and Conservative Party Chairwoman Liz Truss thanked former Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his leadership of the Conservative Party and government under difficult circumstances.

In a speech after announcing her victory as party leader and prime minister, she praised Boris Johnson’s policies towards the European Union and Russia in their war with Ukraine, stressing her determination to deliver on the party’s campaign promises.

“I will run the UK as a province, and we will work on a plan to develop the economy and confront the energy crisis, and I will present an extensive plan to reduce taxes,” she said.

The British Conservative Party announced that Liz Terrace had won the leadership of the party and the post of prime minister. The party stated, “Boris Johnson has faced many challenges during his leadership.” She is the third woman to hold this post in British history.

Terrace received 57 percent of the vote, while her rival, former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak, received 43 percent, according to results announced by Graham Brady, who is in charge of organizing the internal vote.
