Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said US President Joe Biden has approved a $675 million additional arms package for Ukraine as the ministers met to discuss how to provide long-term support to Kyiv in the face of war with Russia.
Austin, speaking at the start of a meeting of dozens of defense ministers at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, said “the meeting will discuss how countries can work together to train Ukrainian forces and improve their defence,” noting that “this Contact Group must take a stand to support the defenders. “The brave are on the side of Ukraine in the long run, which means a constant and decisive flow of power now.”
Late last month, Biden announced about $3 billion in new military aid to Ukraine and noted that “the United States is committed to supporting the Ukrainian people as they continue to defend their sovereignty,” stressing that “we look forward to continuing to celebrate Ukraine.” as a democratic, independent, sovereign and prosperous nation “for decades to come”.
