And Buckingham Palace announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 on Thursday evening, hours after Britain’s royal palace announced the Queen’s health was deteriorating.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral. The King and his wife will be staying at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
After Queen Elizabeth’s death, her eldest son Charles, 73, automatically became Britain’s king and leader of the Commonwealth of 14 other countries, including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
