French police rescue 38 immigrants crammed into a van bound for Portugal

French police rescued 38 illegal immigrants who were traveling in a crowded van from Italy to Portugal, local media reported on Saturday.

According to EFE, it was during a routine control of a highway patrol in a service area of Isère when the van in which these Indians and Pakistanis were transported was detected.

The driver of the van finally managed to escape and is still wanted by the authorities as a suspect in human trafficking, and the Public Ministry has opened an investigation.

The migrants claimed that they were all standing in the van and had not eaten or drunk since leaving Italy.

Although the journey was hundreds of kilometers long when it was interrupted by French police, the rescued migrants had no health problems, according to local media.
