The US International Trade Commission has announced that it has launched an investigation into Samsung Electronics’ patent infringement on outdoor electronic displays.
The official investigation began after a complaint filed on August 19 by Manufacturing Resources International, an Atlanta-based manufacturer of outdoor and semi-outdoor digital LCD panels, alleging that Samsung infringed on five patents.
According to a paper published by the US commission, the patents relate to cooling systems for electronic displays used in outdoor kiosks.
The company claimed that Samsung and its subsidiaries were infringing on the patents of their products. Following the investigations, the US company asked the International Trade Commission to issue a limited exclusion order and stop order against Samsung, according to the notice.
Samsung has reportedly expanded its indoor and outdoor digital signage business in recent years. It also joined forces for several years to upgrade the New York Mets baseball field as a display and technology solutions partner.
The company also participated in providing technical solutions to the “Hollywood Park” in California, where the “Sufi Stadium” is currently being converted into a massive entertainment and commercial space.
Samsung declined to comment on the matter.
