The World Food Program reported that in August last year, Yemen saw the worst deterioration in food security in four years.

In its latest report on food security in Yemen, the United Nations Program highlighted the continued worsening of food insecurity in August last year, as “food consumption has been at its lowest level in four years.”

A survey conducted by the program, which included a number of families from different parts of Yemen, showed that 58 percent of families in areas under the control of the internationally recognized government in southern and eastern Yemen, and 51 percent in areas controlled by the Houthis with a high population density in northern and western Yemen could not get enough food to meet their minimum needs.

The survey also showed that food shortages have risen to an extremely high level of 40 percent in 19 governorates.

The World Food Program feeds 13 million people every month in Yemen, whose economy has collapsed due to the ongoing war for the eighth year in a row. Yemen, with a population of about 30 million, imports most of its food.

But since January, the program has cut rations for eight million of them due to funding shortfalls, and was forced to further cut aid by another five million in August after raising only a quarter of the amount needed for Yemen. representing two billion dollars from international donors this year.
