The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas pointed out that “elections for the National Assembly of Kuwait for the 17th legislative term resulted in a change of 54 percent of the composition of the previous parliament, while 12 representatives of the people in previous parliaments returned to the dome of the Kuwaiti parliament.”

She noted that “women’s participation in this round was notable as more than one candidate scored high and two MPs, Alia Al-Khaled and Janan Bushahri, managed to secure a seat for each of them.”

In August last year, the Kuwaiti Cabinet issued a decree setting September 29 as the date for the election of members of the National Assembly (Parliament) after it was previously announced that it was dissolved.

The elections that took place yesterday, Thursday, included 5 electoral districts under a single electoral system to elect 50 deputies of the National Assembly from 305 male and female candidates.

Notably, in recent months Kuwait has experienced an acute crisis between the government, which has repeatedly resigned, and the National Assembly, resulting in a political impasse in the country.
