The leaders of the countries of the European Union “reject and condemn the illegal annexation” by Russia of four Ukrainian regions, the member states said in a statement on Friday, accusing Moscow of endangering world security.
We do not and will never recognize the illegal ‘referendums’ that Russia held as a pretext for this new violation of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, nor their falsified and illegal results. We will never recognize this illegal annexation.”
The four regions of Ukraine in question: Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Lugansk — represent approx. 15 percent of the territory of Ukraine.
