Vladimir Putin and the separatist leaders of the Donetsk and Lugansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions signed on Friday the treaties that mark the starting signal for Russia’s annexation of these parts of Ukraine. In a speech of almost 40 minutes, Vladimir Putin hardened his criticism of Western countries, accusing the nations of this part of the globe of wanting the return of imperialism and being interested in having “vassals”.

The long speech, which included up to a minute of silence in “memory of the heroes”, was marked by serious accusations against Western forces, especially the United States.
