The State Duma of the Russian Federation approved, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik, agreements on “joining to Russia the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.”

On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke in the Kremlin following the results of referendums in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, after which he signed agreements with the leaders of these regions on their admission to Russia. Subsequently, these treaties were recognized by the Constitutional Court of Russia as corresponding to the Constitution of Russia.

Alexander Pashkin, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation, explained to Sputnik earlier that the admission of foreign structures to Russia should be formalized by voting of the State Duma and the Federation Council on an international treaty in accordance with the Constitution, as well as the decision of the Constitutional Court of Russia on the compliance of the Agreement with the Basic Law.
