Brazil: President of the PT denies the possibility of amnesty for radicals

Gleisi Hoffmann warned that the ruling party will prevent the approval in Congress of any type of law that favors those responsible for the attacks on the headquarters of the three powers.

The president of the Workers’ Party (PT) said Monday that the party founded by Brazilian President Lula da Silva will oppose the possibility of amnesty for those responsible for the January 8 coup in Brazil.

Gleisi Hoffmann warned that the ruling party prevent the approval of any type of law in Congress that favors those responsible for the attacks to the headquarters of the Presidency, Congress and the Federal Supreme Court.

The deputy referred to the possible amnesty when commenting on a bill presented by a lawmaker from the Liberal Party (PL), former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro.

“Former leader of the genocidal government, deputy of the PL, presented a project to grant amnesty to the coup plotters who attempt against democracy. It is the end of the road to give safe passage to those who rioted across the country and vandalized public buildings. There will be no more time, punishment for all!“said Gleisi Hoffmann, on the social network Twitter.

The bill, whose author is the “major” deputy Vitor Hugo, was presented 45 days before the anti-democratic acts of January 8, but, if approved, it will benefit the perpetrators.

According to the document published in the local press, the “major” Vitor Hugo defends amnesty for “protesters, truckers, businessmen and all those who have participated in demonstrations on national highways, in front of military units or in any territory on October 30 from 2022 to the entry into force” of the law.
