The 27 Member States of the European Union (EU) approved on Monday a package of two billion euros to produce and make available to Ukraine large-caliber ammunition, announced the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security.
“A historic decision. As part of my proposal, Member States have agreed to deliver one million artillery rounds in the next 12 months”, Josep Borrell wrote on the social network twitter.
The historic decision.
Following my proposal, Member States agreed to deliver 1 million rounds of artillery ammunition in the next 12 months.
We have a 3 track approach:
1) 1,000 million euros for immediate delivery
2) €1 billion for joint acquisitions
3) commission to increase production capacity pic.twitter.com/CCNOaxE4bk— Josep Borrell Fontelles (@JosepBorrellF) March 20, 2023
The package was approved during a meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers in Brussels.
You two billion euros have the purpose of 155mm ammunition production that Ukraine has been asking for weeks to continue repelling the invasion of the Russian Federation, which began more than a year ago.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
