Feyenoord crowned Dutch soccer champion

With this title, Feyenoord puts an end to a ‘fast’ of five seasons -their last championship had been in 2016/17- and the hegemony of Ajax.

Feyenoord was proclaimed Dutch soccer champion this Sunday by beating Go Ahead Eagles 3-0, two days before the end of the championship, which they won for the 16th time in their history.

The Rotterdam team already has 79 points, an unattainable mark for PSV, who is second, with one game less, and continues to play today at home against Fortuna Sittard, but with 68 points.

In this Sunday’s game, against the GA Eagles, Feyenoord ‘sealed’ the victory and the title with goals from Moroccan Oussama Idrissi (15 minutes), Mexican Santiago Giménez (18) and Brazilian Igor Paixão (54).

With this title, Feyenoord puts an end to a ‘fast’ of five seasons -its last championship had been in 2016/17- and the hegemony of Ajax (2021/22, 2020/21 and 2018/19), in an interval in which PSV was also champion, in 2017/18.

With the consecration of Feyenoord today, the Norwegian Fredrik Aursnes can also celebrate, after having started the season in this Dutch emblem, in which he still played two games, before losing to Benfica in August.

In today’s afternoon game in the Netherlands, the clash between the already relegated Groningen and Ajax was abandoned in the ninth minute, due to lack of respect among the fans and after the launch of two smoke bombs on the pitch.

The Dutch Football Federation has tightened the rules after international Davy Klaassen was hit with an object that left him bleeding on the head in April in the Cup semi-final between Feyenoord and Ajax.
