Dmytro Kuleba reacted on social media to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in Kharkiv, allegedly by Russian forces, accusing Moscow of having caused “probably the biggest technological disaster in decades.”
“Russia destroyed the Kharkov dam causing what is probably the biggest technological disaster in decades and putting hundreds of civilians at risk. This is a heinous war crime. Russian troops destroy the Kakhovka dam in Kherson, accuses Ukraine. Water can reach “critical levels” in five hours
Good day,
Ukrainian authorities on Tuesday accused Russian troops of blowing up the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and asked residents of areas along the Dnipro river in southern Ukraine to leave their homes.
The Southern Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced the destruction of the infrastructure, 60 kilometers from the city of Kherson, and indicated that it is investigating the magnitude of the damage, as well as the speed and amount of water that should affect the surrounding areas. .
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, said, in a video posted on Telegram shortly before 7 a.m. (5 a.m. in Lisbon), that “the Russian army committed another act of terror” and warned that the water could reach “level the critics” in five hours.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry has asked residents of ten villages on the right bank of the Dnipro River and parts of the city of Kherson to gather essential documents and pets, turn off electrical appliances and leave their homes.
Images circulating on social mediaWhat appear to be from a surveillance camera, overlooking the dam, show a flashlight, an explosion, and the dam collapsing.
Video footage of the dam shows a major breach in the section of the dam closest to the Russian-occupied eastern bank of the river. Flooding is expected to reach critical levels around 11 am, according to local authorities. https://t.co/sNaTGIzCOC

The chief of staff of the Ukrainian Presidency, Andriy Yermak, revealed that President Volodymyr Zelensky urgently called a meeting of the country’s Security Council, after “another war crime committed by Russian terrorists.”
In response, Moscow said the dam had collapsed “due to damage” caused by the conflict, confirming that nearby land was inundated.
“The dam failed, a support collapsed and flooding began,” a source told Russia’s official TASS news agency.
