Hundreds Flee Floods Caused by Typhoon in the Philippines

Hundreds of people fled flooding from Super Typhoon Saola in the northeastern Philippines. No casualty records yet.

Hundreds of people fled the floods caused by the passage of Super Typhoon Saola in the northeast of the Philippines, emergency services reported this Sunday, with no record of victims so far.

Saola made landfall on the northeastern part of the main island of Luzon on Saturday night. A total of 388 people were evacuated due to flooding in four towns in Cagayan, and two other towns were threatened by rising waters.

Meteorological services warned of the possibility of flash floods and landslides as a result of the heavy rains.

The Philippines experiences an average of 20 major storms a year, killing hundreds of people and keeping vast regions in chronic poverty.
