Colombian Ministry of Health warns about dengue outbreak in 274 municipalities

The Colombian Ministry of Health has warned of a dengue outbreak in 274 municipalities in various departments of the country, where minors continue to be the most affected.

The Colombian Ministry of Health alerted about a dengue outbreak in 274 municipalities in various departments of the country, where minors continue to be the most affected, the Colprensa news agency reported.

So far this year, a total of 67,944 cases of dengue have been registered in Colombia, with the population under 15 years of age being the most affected, according to the Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin of the National Institute of Health, whose data covers the period up to 16 August 2023.

The Ministry confirmed 44 deaths across the country, 27 of which were under 15 years of age. Many of these deaths, ministry sources explained, were caused by the low perception of risk regarding dengue.

Although most of the cases are not serious, the alert remains in force, mainly due to the increase registered since July, especially in the district of Cali and in the departments of Santander, Meta, Tolima, Bolívar and Antioquia.
