For the first time in Italy’s history, the sitting prime minister will participate in a face-to-face debate with the main opposition leader that will be broadcast on state television.
The Italian prime minister and the leader of the main opposition party will face off in an unprecedented debate during the European elections. The face to face between Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein, who will represent their respective parties in the June elections, is scheduled for may 23 and will be broadcast on the state channel Rai1, from the public broadcaster of the same name.
This is the First debate in Italian history between a sitting prime minister and the leader of the opposition.says the Agence France-Presse, which published the news this Saturday.
Meloni is the number one candidate of Irmãos de Itália, the party she leads and which has been in power since winning the legislative elections in October 2022. Schlein represents the Democratic Party, which she has led since March last year. Both have already recognized it will not take their seats in the European Parliament after the electionsmaintaining their respective national positions.
The Italian Prime Minister is running for election with the slogan “Italy is changing Europe.” The opposition leader’s campaign is marked by themes closer to Italian reality, focusing in particular on the problems of the national health system. The latest polls currently give the advantage to the Brothers of Italy, with around 27% in the European vote, followed by the Democratic Party, with around 20%.
