  • US defends UN refugee agency, calls on Israel to enact new law designating it as terrorist organisation

The US government on Wednesday came out in defence of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, which Israel wants to consider a terrorist organisation. Israel has accused UNRWA of collaborating with Hamas, leading several countries to suspend donations to the agency, a decision that many ended up reversing, however, as Reuters wrote here.

According to Al-Jazeera, the US administration has criticised the Israeli bill that would declare UNRWA a terrorist organisation. For the government led by Joe Biden, such a declaration will be “incredibly unhelpful”.

“UNRWA is not a terrorist organization and we call on the Israeli government to halt this legislation,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, adding that Israel’s attacks on the organization are “incredibly futile” and do not help bring humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

  • Israel shot down suspicious flying object from Lebanon

A suspicious flying object entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon and was shot down by Israeli forces near the border in the Baram area.

According to information cited by Al-Jazeera, the incident, another moment of tension between Israel and Lebanon, left no injuries.

  • Israeli forces hit more than 60 targets in Gaza over the past 24 hours

Israeli forces have attacked more than 60 targets in the past 24 hours, according to information transmitted by the Israeli military and cited by the Times of Israel newspaper.

The attacks were carried out using aircraft, “attack” helicopters and drones. The “operations” continue in the areas of Khan Younis, Rafah and the Netzarim corridor in Gaza.

According to the same newspaper, Israeli forces also said that in Khan Younis they managed to kill several snipers and destroy 50 sites “that belonged to terrorist groups.”
