  • Blinken says ceasefire talks are in final stages and new Hamas leader is ‘main decision-maker’

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said talks on a ceasefire in Gaza are in their final stages and he said Hamas’ new leader, Yahya Sinwar, has the power to decide.

According to Antony Blinken, as quoted by The Times of Israel, Yahya Sinwar “was and remains the primary decision-maker in concluding the ceasefire.”

Sinwar’s arrival as Hamas leader “only underscores the fact that it’s really up to him to decide whether to move forward with a ceasefire,” Blinken said, warning that now is the time for “all parties involved to bring closure, without delay, without excuses and without reason” for not reaching a yes.
