Olaf Scholz’s SPD is expected to win, albeit by a narrow margin, in the regional elections in Bradenburg. According to initial projections based on exit polls, the German chancellor’s party, with a long history of governing the region, is expected to win between 31.2 and 31.8 percent of the vote, according to polls by ARD and ZDF published a few minutes ago.

According to the same polls, the far-right AfD party would come in second place, with a result very close to that of the SPD: between 29.2 and 29.9%, according to the same data collected in the two polls.

SPD regional leader Dietmar Woidke already reacted late in the evening to the first signs of what the result could be, expressing relief at the lead he has over the far-right party. Still, he stressed the importance of activists using the “euphoria brakes” until the vote count is complete.
