A 44-year-old woman was arrested for crimes allowing foreigners to enter the Schengen area. “Evidence that reinforces the evidence of the commission” of the crimes was seized.
A woman was arrested in Matosinhos, Porto district, for alleged assistance in illegal immigration, forgery and falsification of documents, crimes that allowed foreign citizens to enter the Schengen area, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced this Thursday.
In a statement, this criminal investigation body indicates that the 44-year-old woman “will be co-author of a plan that, at least since 2022, has allowed and facilitated the entry of foreign citizens to the Schengen areain violation of current legal regulations.”
“In particular, by using false information, the detained person falsified documentation in order to request visas, at the Portuguese consulates in Bangkok [Tailândia] and Germany in Hanoi [Vietname]for the benefit of these foreign citizens,” explains the PJ.
The defendant is “strongly accused” of having committed one crime of association to assist illegal immigration, four crimes of aiding illegal immigration and four crimes of forgery or falsification of documents.
The procedures carried out by the Northern Directorate of the PJ, which is carrying out the investigation, “made it possible to seize evidence that reinforces the evidence of the commission” of the crimes in question.
The detainee, with dual nationality, was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, being subjected to the coercive measures of periodic presentations (biweekly) and prohibition of contacts with the victims.
