The special representative of the European Union (EU) for the Middle East Peace Process, Sven Koopmans, said this Saturday that it is time for the international community to officially recognize the State of Palestine.
“How many more people will have to die before we think this is the right time?” to affirm the recognition of Palestine, asked Koopmans, who invited participants to debate the issue looking to the future of the region, arguing that this future must involve a two-state solution.
The EU representative spoke in Barcelona at the Euro-Mediterranean conference of civil society against polarization in the Middle East, with the motto “Reclaim our shared humanity. Fighting polarization, dehumanization and radicalization driven by the conflict in the Middle East”, which had more than 200 participants from around 30 countries and was organized by the European Mediterranean Institute.
