The Guinean PR considers it unacceptable that the country has “more officers” than soldiers

The Guinean Head of State stated that the country has known several Presidents of the Republic since the end of the political-military conflict of 1998/99, but that none “had the courage to attack the problem.”

The Guinean president, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, stated this Sunday that the country “has more officers” in the defense and security forces “than soldiers”, a situation that he considered unacceptable in development efforts.

The Guinean Head of State spoke to journalists on the sidelines of a visit and lunch with officials from the Ministry of the Interior, in Bissau.

“Today we have more officers than soldiers. How is that possible? asked Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who said he was fighting against that reality to change it.

The Head of State affirmed that the country has known several Presidents of the Republic since the end of the political-military conflict of 1998/99, but that none “had the courage to attack the problem”, which he says he faces now because it came from the Armed forces. Embaló completed his Compulsory Military Service in the 1990s.

The Guinean President said that dialogue was necessary to change that paradigm, while at the same time it was necessary to encourage citizens to regain confidence in the country. Sissoco Embaló affirmed that the Guinean diaspora “is the most lost”, where, he said, there are citizens who “speak badly of the country.”

The president also noted that Guineans, especially those living in the diaspora, “insult the authorities,” but warned that he will remain in power “until the year two thousand and thirty-odd,” as long as power is won through vote of the people. , he pointed out.

“While I am President, neither the chief of the General Staff (of the Armed Forces) will be assassinated, nor the heads of the branches (of the Armed Forces) will be assassinated. “Whoever doubts will try, there will be consequences,” he stressed, in reference to possible coups d’état.

The head of state defended that “people know today what the correlation of forces is” that exists in the country, where, he stressed, there must be order and discipline. “There is only one boss in this country,” he said, referring to himself.

The Guinean head of state said he was “pleasantly surprised” to discover that in the Ministry of the Interior there are five young people who have just arrived in the country after graduating from the Public Security Police School (PSP) in Portugal.

“They should be used as teachers even in our universities, they have the conditions to teach there. When we recruit new police officers, these people will be able to train the new police officers,” said Sissoco Embaló.
