The Russian military has assembled a force of 50,000 soldiers, including those from North Korea, as it prepares for a raid aimed at recapturing Ukrainian-held territory in the Russian city of Kursk. The news was reported this Sunday by The New York Times, which cites sources from the United States and Ukraine.
To do so, Russia did not have to withdraw troops from eastern Ukraine, a region considered a battlefield priority. In this way, Moscow can put pressure on Ukraine on different fronts.
Russian forces have recaptured some territory Ukraine captured in Kursk this year, but have yet to launch a major raid. Ukrainian sources told the American newspaper that this operation is what kyiv forces now expect, with the participation of North Korean soldiers.
For now, North Korean soldiers are training with Russian forces in the western part of Kursk.
