Yahya al-Faharani sparked outrage and questions on social media following his statements about the burkini, which he called “embarrassing”. The Egyptian actor’s name topped the Google search list after he spoke about burkini at a meeting of the Senate Committee on Culture, Tourism and Antiquities discussing the crisis of banning burkinis in tourist villages. The committee met on Monday, chaired by Mahmoud Muslim, to discuss a proposal by MP Ahmed Al-Kinawi on the issue of banning the wearing of the burkini, known as the “Islamic bathing suit.”

In this context, Al-Faharani described the burkini as “more embarrassing than regular swimwear, because it is closer to the body. We don’t get involved in religious conflicts, we are a country that wants to boost tourism. ” He continued, “My wife is shy and when she wears a burkini, it opens more because it is too attached to the body.”
Al-Fahharani’s statements caused confusion in Egypt between his supporters and opponents, especially since al-Fahharani was the first to respond to these controversial issues in Egyptian society. For his part, the physician and writer Lamis Jaber, al-Faharani’s wife, because of her experience and opinion on the matter, said: “The question is trivial, insignificant and unworthy of -Wipe. This is respect for the place. Anyone who goes to a place to enjoy the sea and the beach must respect its rules and abide by its conditions, regardless of whether it is allowed to wear a burkini or not. ”
