A total of approximately 140 soldiers per day, using different means of the National Republican Guard (GNR), will guarantee the security of the European Central Bank (ECB) Forum in Sintra between Sunday and next Thursday.
In a statement released on Saturday, the GNR highlights that the operation is being carried out to guarantee the safety of the event and the respective stakeholders, which will take place in the Penha Longa tourist complex, in the municipality of Sintra, in the district of Lisbon. between 3:00 p.m. on Sunday (the day before the forum) and 2:00 p.m. on June 30.
Among the different media used, the GNR highlights special operations teams, means to neutralize the invasion of airspace by remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS)teams from the Center for Inactivation of Explosive Devices, Security and Subsoil, and canine binomials.
The National Republican Guard, in close collaboration with other security forces and services, will carry out this operation through the Lisbon Territorial Command, reinforced with troops from the Intervention Unit, the State Security and Honors Unit, the Protection of Emergency and Relief, the General Secretariat. and neighboring territorial commands.
Starting Monday, the ECB will once again hold its annual forum in Sintra this year dedicated to the challenges of monetary policy in a rapidly changing world.
After being held in 2020 and 2021 by telematic means due to the pandemic, the three-day summit returns to Sintra in person, as happened in previous years.
Central bank governors, academics, economists and financial market representatives will analyze the implications of these factors for the eurozone economy in the global context, including trends that appear to have been reinforced by the pandemic and how they may affect monetary policy going forward.
The objective, the organization points out, is to discuss, in particular, with regard to inflation in the euro zone, the role of international production networks and the key factors in the behavior of energy prices, including geopolitical developments and changes in supply structures.
Since 2013, Sintra has hosted the annual ECB forum, which replicates the model established since 1978 in the city of Jackson Hole, Kansas, in the United States.
