The average sale prices of gasoline and diesel in Portugal in the second quarter were 16.1 and 4.0 cents per liter higher than the average values of the European Union in 27, according to ERSE data.
According to the EU-27 fuel price bulletin, published this Friday by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), for simple gasoline 95, “in the second quarter of 2022 Portugal presented an average sale price and an average price before taxes higher than the average values verified in the EU-27, of the order of 16.1 cents/l [cêntimos por litro] and 10 cents/l, respectively”.
Among the eight countries analyzed in greater detail (Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands), “Italy had the lowest average selling price, around 14 cents/l lower than the average selling price. average in Portugal. Discounting the fiscal effect, the average price of this fuel in the national market was around 6.9 cents/l higher than the values practiced in Italy”, he says.
As for simple diesel, “in the second quarter of 2022, Portugal presented average prices with and without taxes above the average values in the EU-27 at 4.0 cents/l and 3.4 cents/l, respectively”.
Among the eight countries analyzed in greater detail, Italy has the lowest average price with taxes, some 4.9 cents/l lower than the average price in Portugal. Discounting the tax effect, the national average price of this fuel was 2.5 cents/l above the values declared in Italy”, he details.
As for normal 95 gasoline, the average sales price (PMV) without taxes in the EU-27 increased by 22.8 cents/l from the first to the second quarter of 2022, with Portugal having an PMV without taxes of 0.9 cents/l higher than in Spain.
However, “the tax pressure applied in Portugal (44%) contributed to a lower price competitiveness in the context of the Iberian Peninsula”.
According to ERSE, for gasoline, “national PMVs are higher than the EU-27 average, ranking seventh among the countries with the highest prices.”
As for simple diesel, the PMV without taxes in the EU-27 increased by 25.5 cents/l from the first to the second quarter of 2022.
“Without taxation, average national prices are 1.6 cents/l lower than in the neighboring country. However, the tax burden in Portugal (38%) was slightly higher than that of Spain (37%), which justified the practice of similar MVPs”, says the regulator.
Thus, also in diesel “the national PMV was above the average values of the EU-27, placing Portugal in 12th place in terms of higher prices. Without taxes, the Portuguese position in the EU-27 ranking is maintained”.
Finally, in relation to liquefied petroleum gas for automobiles (LPG Auto), “national prices, with and without taxes, were lower than those practiced in Spain”.
According to ERSE, “compared to the average value of the EU-27, the national PMV was 4.6 cents/l higher, however, without taxes, national prices were 4.6 cents/l lower than the European average” .
