WhatsApp has new privacy tools, including more discreet group outings

WhatsApp, the messaging application controlled by Meta, has news regarding privacy. Three new tools were announced for the app on Tuesday, including the ability to finally make more discreet departures from the groups.

Currently, if you are in a WhatsApp group, a more airy exit is practically impossible. After all, all users in the group are automatically notified of the exit. From now on, according to the announcement made by the company, only the group admins you will receive an alert about who left the conversation. Something that can be especially useful in groups with many people, which usually generate many messages and notifications.

In addition to this new feature, it will also soon be possible to hide the indication of the last time you were online from specific contacts. Until now, you can only choose if you want to share the last time you were online with “everyone”, “my contacts” or “nobody”. The update will bring a new option: “with my contacts, except…”, after which I must indicate which contacts to prevent from seeing this information.

This is another update to the last seen online feature, after WhatsApp began hiding this prompt by default from strangers who have your phone number in December.

An option that aims to prevent users from taking screenshots of messages or images is still being tested. According to the image shared by WhatsApp, when someone tries to take a screenshot, the message “Screenshot locked for privacy” will appear. However, it is worth remembering that this feature will not prevent the message or image from being copied or captured using another phone, for example.

WhatsApp also specified that it will gradually begin rolling out these features to users throughout the month.

This app has been regularly updated, in some cases adding more functionality. In June, a tool designed for group calls was launched that allows users to be muted.
