Ukrainian Tech Hosts Hackathon To Create Technological Solutions To Answer War Problems

The technology company Sigma Software will organize, in October, a marathon dedicated to the development of technological solutions in the context of war, called “Hack for Peace”. The company’s initiative to create this “hackathon” at the European level will reach five countries – Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden, Poland and also Ukraine.

In a statement, Sigma explains that the challenge will be launched programmers, entrepreneurs, mentors, investors and anyone who wants to share ideas about “innovative products to promote peace on the European continent.”

This digital marathon will take place from October 21 to 23, spread over the five countries. The logistics are explained by the company: the participants will be meet in person at different locations and, in turn, connected by videoconference to participants from other countries. In this way, Sigma explains, they can “exchange ideas personally and in various countries as well.”

As usual in these technological challenges, this “hackathon” will also have different themes to promote ideas – cybersecurity, information hygiene and media wars; mental health; childhood education and even logistics in terms of war.

The event will be free and you can participate individually or as a team. The organization, which will also include Tech Nation UK, a British entity, will give preference to participants who already have some kind of idea.

The full list of partners includes Founder Institute, Startup Grind Nordics, Startup Poland, SID Venture Partners, LACS, Nutty Ventures AB, Techfugees, Blue Lake, TechUkraine, Sigma Software Labs, and Sigma Software University. Startup Lisboa is also part of the list of partners of this hackathon. “Startup Lisboa believes in the potential of technology to solve the humanitarian problems that are felt today in different parts of the world. The Ukrainian Start-up Fund and also the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation will support this initiative, as will the Swedish Embassy in Poland and the Ukrainian Embassy in the UK.

The registration deadline for both the participant and the mentor, ends September 30. Three winning ideas will be chosen, who will have the opportunity to put these ideas into practice and develop them with the guidance of investors and mentors.
