The Minister for Territorial Cohesion stressed this Tuesday that the national path in the medium and long term in terms of energy is to increase production and supply from non-polluting sources.
In addition to direct support [do Estado], the path of companies will have to be to increase the supply of clean energy. All the support we have in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and Portugal 2030 goes in that direction,” said Ana Abrunhosa, in Penela, Coimbra district.
The official, who was speaking to journalists at the end of a visit to the SIRL metalworking company, one of the world’s largest concrete mixer manufacturers, said that this is “the only way that exists, otherwise the country will become dependent on countries whose geopolitics is unstable”.
The Minister of Territorial Cohesion said that she is pleased to note that, in recent times, the production of clean electricity has been increasing in the country, “with the advantage that the interior territories are the most suitable for producing energy from clean sources”.
This is also a great opportunity for these inland territories, where we have land and resources available to produce energy from clean sources, because there is no package that supports us if we do not follow the path of producing energy from renewable sources,” he stressed. . .
Regarding the package of aid to companies to help minimize the impacts of the rise in energy prices and inflation, Ana Abrunhosa reiterated that the Government awaits the sixth-fair meeting of the European Union to be able to present a set of support, as it was honored to the population.
“We are very concerned about the companies that consume gas, of which SIRL is one of the examples, with expenses to quintuple from 3,000 euros per month to 15,000“, he underlined, recalling that the Government already has a support measure for large consumers, “although it has been mentioned that it is insufficient”.
According to the official, after understanding what will be done at the European Union level, work will continue on the support package for companies, which will complement the support package for families, always with the concern that “the measures will not cause inflation.
Born in a 25-square-meter garage in 1988, SIRL, located in the Penela industrial estate, is spread over five factories and employs around 150 people, 40% of whom are women.
With an annual turnover of 32 million euros, it exports more than 70% of its production to 88 countries on all continents and is preparing to build a sixth unit to produce an innovative concrete mixer with an attached transport cart.
