The Madeira branch of the Public Administration Workers’ Union (SINTAP) called a strike for Thursday and Friday, covering around 400 child support technicians and operational assistants with identical and equivalent functions.
One of the goals of the strike is to clarify the functional content of this career created in the region about a year ago, stressed the regional coordinator of SINTAP, Leonilde Cassiano.
There must be an urgent clarification of this because these professionals are carrying out cleaning tasks that, in our opinion, should not be done. We have always called for the total elimination of this situation,” he said.
Leonilde Cassiano joked that “this is the best career there is” because “the workers can replace practically everyone within a school.”
“This is not permissible. These workers cannot be executors, since they are often pressured by management, […] this type of functions”, he reinforced.
EITHER The union also demands the “immediate integration of all workers in the career of operative assistants who perform functions identical or equivalent to those of child support technicians in this special career, with a minimum of two years of effective exercise of functions within the classroom.
Another requirement is that “there is no loss of points when changing the salary position to the first position for all workers who were positioned in the 218 and 228 indexes.”
They also denounce that “the ratios established for nursery and preschool rooms are out of date taking into account the current reality, especially during the school break.”
In addition, they demand “the urgent and immediate reinforcement of nursery and preschool personnel, whether or not they are inserted in primary and secondary education establishments, with workers in the career of operational assistants, with cleaning tasks and general services” . , to prevent the recurrent and systematic violation of the functional content of food technicians for children”.
