This Friday the first coins with the image of Carlos III were presented. The official effigy of the King appears in a range on a Elizabeth II commemorative issue and on the new 50 pence coins. The images were shared on the social networks of Casa Real.
The range of commemorative coins from the reign of Elizabeth II has a 5 pound coin and a 50 pence coin. The largest coin will have the image of the new king on one side and two new portraits of the previous queen on the other. The design of this coin was created by the artist John Bergdahl in collaboration with the Royal Mint, the official body that produces coins in the United Kingdom. These coins will be released next Monday, October 3.
A new 50 pence coin, featuring the new King, has also been unveiled and will enter circulation later this year, according to The Guardian newspaper.
It was up to the British sculptor to create the profile of Carlos III that will be used on the coins from now on and had the approval of the King himself. As tradition dictates, the new monarch looks at the opposite side of his predecessor. That is, Carlos III looks to the left, while Elizabeth II always looks to the right, in the five portraits that he had on coins throughout his 70-year reign.
