The deputies exchanged accusations on Wednesday about who is responsible for the real estate crisis, among critics of the Government of Passos Coelho and the current one, with some ‘messages’ also addressed to the bank.
In the parliamentary debate raised by the PCP on housing, Mariana Mortágua, from BE, criticized the PS for rejecting legislative proposals, specifically those of the blockades, and said that people deserve more than to be protected from evictions, “they need security ”.
We know that the housing problem must be solved, the problem is that the Government does not do it and the PS clearly does not allow it to be done either ”, he shot.
Maria Begonha, from the PS, took the pulpit to criticize the housing measures presented by the Social Democrats on Tuesday, accusing the PSD leader, Luís Montenegro, of presenting proposals that test a “perfect return to the past.”
Remembering the PSD/CDS government led by Pedro Passos Coelho and the “Law of the Cristas” of “liberalization of the lease law“, the socialist criticized a vision “defeated, at the same time past and passive”.
Begonha also defended that if the deputies were debating this issue and the opposition had presented measures, it was because of the Council of Ministers dedicated to housing scheduled for Thursday, an argument rejected by the communist Alma Rivera, who recalled that the PCP initiative was already programmed.
In response, the leader of the Social Democratic Youth (JSD), Alexandre Poço, blamed the PS for causing “the retraction in the supply of the rental market“, arguing that “there are more than 700 thousand empty houses for some reason”. The deputy continued, who maintained that “the affordable leasing program after three years has a thousand signed contracts and Porta 65 continues to have more than 40% of rejected applications.”
And since you are so concerned about Pedro Passos Coelho and the PSD: do you know at what age the young people left home in 2015? 29 years. Do you know how old he is now? 34″, he said.
Liberal deputy Carlos Guimarães Pinto criticized the government, but also pointed out that he was “aiming” at the communist proposals, arguing that “contrary to what the PCP mental scheme often wants to make it seem, there is no incentive from the banking sector for the people go into default.”
In the opinion of the Liberal Initiative (IL) deputy, “The communists do not conceive of any other type of policy than that of prohibiting, limitingand ironically said that the PCP chose its party symbol well, since the hammer and sickle “perfectly represent” the actions and consequences of communist policies.
Moments later, Guimarães Pinto also blamed the socialists: “It was you who destroyed the rental market, it is because of you that many people have to resort to credit because they have no other option.”
In between, Chega also accused the PCP of a policy of “prohibit, limit, break contracts“, a solution that he called “Cuban or Venezuelan style”.
Deputy Duarte Alves, from the PCP, warned that the bankers “even mock” the government’s measures on the renegotiation of credits, calling on the executive to face the interests of the banks and throwing at the representatives of the PS: “What are they doing? ? expect to do anything left?
The general secretary of the Socialist Youth (JS), Miguel Costa Matos, praised the measures already taken by the executive but criticized the banks, warning that regarding the renegotiation of credits “here there are no blacklists, nor can there be”.
The Bank of Portugal has already said it and even at the initiative of the PS we are going to block all kinds of obstacles that the bank will put so that people cannot renegotiate their credits. (…) No, gentlemen of the PCP, the PS is not on the side of the bank and the work of the last few months only shows it, ”he replied.
Already in the final stretch of the debate, and in a tone of convergence, the social democrat Carlos Eduardo Reis defended that “an absolute majority is no excuse for leaving the PS alone to find solutions“.
This is a commitment that must be national, especially since the banking entities did not understand what is already evident: it is that the people cannot stand it”, he defended, after having told the deputy Bruno Dias, from the PCP, despite some disagreements . : “we could be in the same bank what is the similarity with the concern”.
For the PAN, the deputy Inês Sousa Real criticized the absence of the Government in the discussion, and Rui Tavares, from Livre, warned of a “time bomb” situation, criticizing the PS for rejecting initiatives in committee on the subject.
