Teleworking now applies to both public and private jobs

The teleworking regime will now apply to both public and private sector workers and parental leave will increase in days and in value, the State Technical Personnel Union reported this Wednesday.

“The proposal that was sent to the union organizations has to do with the Decent Work Agenda, the modifications to the Labor Code and the repercussions on public administration workers. For now, it establishes the convergence regime in the areas of convergent social protection, such as child rearing. We already know that parental leave for father and mother increase in the number of days and amounts to be paid”the president of the union front headed by the Union of State Technical Personnel and entities with public purposes (STE), María Helena Rodrigues, told journalists.

The unions that represent public service workers met this Wednesday with the Secretary of State for Public Administrations, Inês Ramires, to discuss the Decent Work Agenda.

According to the leader of the STE, the teleworking regime will now be applied to the public function, “as in private”.

However, María Helena Rodrigues stressed that some issues have not yet been clarified, namely the payment of overtime, defined in the Labor Code.

On the other hand, he said that the “self-justification of absences in the three days, under an oath of honor, will also apply to public workers.”

On December 22, the deputies approved, in particular, a reform to the Labor Code that establishes that the father’s mandatory parental leave will go from the current 20 working days to 28 consecutive or interpolated days.

“It is mandatory for the father to take a parental leave of 28 daysfollowed or interpolated, in the 42 days following the birth of the child, five of which are taken consecutively immediately after it”, establishes the standard approved in the working group on job changes provided for in the Decent Work Agenda.

The approved Government proposal also establishes that, after enjoying the 28-day leave, the father is entitled to seven days of leave, consecutive or interpolated (instead of the current five working days), as long as they are enjoyed simultaneously with the enjoyment of the permission. Initial parental permission in charge of the mother.

“In case of hospitalization of the child during the postpartum period,” the father’s mandatory leave “is suspended, at the father’s request, for the duration of the hospitalization,” the proposal establishes.

The executive’s proposal to reform labor legislation, within the scope of the Decent Work Agenda, entered parliament in June, without the agreement of the Social Concert, having been approved in general on July 8 with favorable votes from the PS, abstention of PSD, Basta, BE, PAN and Livre and against IL and PCP.
