Review of facts. Does Dubai now have flying pizza delivery men?

Viral post claims that, in Dubai, there are flying pizza delivery men. It’s false.

A video posted on social media seems straight out of any Marvel superhero movie. There are several seconds of different supposed pizza delivery men flying over the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. In different similar publications it is even stated that the city is “leading this technology” in the world. However, this is a fake post.

The viral post claims that. In Dubai, pizzas are delivered by air. It’s false.

When we analyze the video, it appears, in fact, that the people making the supposed pizza delivery are using a type of jetpack that allows them to fly over Dubai. Still, this does not mean that the images we are seeing are real because there is no credible information complementary to those images. If we look for the source of this video, it is possible to obtain similar results on X, formerly Twitter, where some users claim that it is false content.

With further investigation it is possible to discover which men appear in that video. One of them is Vince Reffet who flew over that city in 2020, breaking the flight altitude record with a jetpack. In fact, this pilot ended up dying during training in Dubai. In another part of the video it was concluded that we are facing a campaign action by a platform like Uber Eats or Glovo, in this case Noon, from the United Arab Emirates. This video is available on the official social networks of that brand.

One of the most relevant fact-checkers in Brazil, Boatos.org, also denied this publication, concluding that we are facing a publication with false information and that attaches different videos to manipulate social networks. That is, although previous tests have been carried out, as was the case with the Dominos pizza brand in the United Kingdom in 2023, it cannot be said that the use of jetpacks to deliver food is a recurring practice in different cities such as Dubai. There is no credible news that proves the veracity of those publications that the Observer verified. Maybe in the near future, but not yet.

Conclusion

There is not enough evidence that, in the city of Dubai, there are pizza delivery people who use jetpacks to work. The publications in question used different excerpts from different videos to construct and manipulate fake news. These and other posts have been previously refuted by other international fact-checkers. One of these excerpts is from a promotional campaign for a brand in the United Arab Emirates.

Thus, according to the Observer classification system, this content is:

MISTAKEN

In the Facebook classification system this content is:

FAKE: Claims about the main content are factually inaccurate. Generally, this option corresponds to “false” or “mostly false” ratings on fact-checking websites.
