Hugo Soares calls for responsibility from the opposition

The Secretary General of the PSD and leader of the parliamentary group, Hugo Soares, said on Sunday that he was “absolutely convinced” that the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025) will be viable and called for “responsibility from the opposition parties.”

“I am absolutely committed and convinced that, with the responsibility of the opposition parties, the continent, like Madeira, will also have a good Budget, above all with one objective: to change and improve people’s lives,” he said.

Hugo Soares was speaking to reporters upon his arrival at the Herdade do Chão da Lagoa, located in a mountainous area on the outskirts of Funchal, where the annual PSD/Madeira party is being held today.

“We will see who makes the budget viable on the continent,” he said, commenting that Chega made the Regional Government Program (PSD) for the 2024-2028 legislature viable, as well as the regional Budget for 2024. abstaining from voting on documents in the Legislative Assembly. “We have not yet had a vote on the continent,” he warned.

The government, led by social democrat Luis Montenegro, met on Friday with all opposition parties with parliamentary seats in the 2025 State Budget, with the exception of the PSD and the CDS-PP, which cancelled their participation in this first round.

The Prime Minister was initially expected to be present at these meetings. However, for health reasons, Luís Montenegro cancelled his presence at all political events until this Sunday, including the PSD/Madeira Festival.

In Chão da Lagoa, the PSD secretary general recalled that during the first three months of the legislature, Chega stressed that his electoral programme has similarities with that of the PS and has “approved measures with the Socialist Party”. “Therefore, I think it is also possible that the Chega programme has ideas similar to other programmes,” said Hugo Soares.
