The only PAN deputy said this Thursday that the viability by the PS of the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025) could constitute an opportunity to “correct the setbacks” that the document presented by the Government has.

In statements to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, Inês de Sousa Real said that the The abstention of the PS “should represent an opportunity so that, in terms of specialty, setbacks can be corrected” of OE2025 in areas such as animal and environmental protection and also “in social and human rights issues, such as the fight against poverty and extreme vulnerability, particularly with ‘housing first’ projects for homeless people.”

“And today, on the day of poverty eradication, it is especially relevant that the next budget can really correct these gaps and this lack of ambition for what should be a medium and long-term vision for the country’s recovery, but also for what we have. a more progressive and more socially and environmentally sustainable country,” defended the deputy.

The spokesperson for the People-Animals-Nature party also asked the PS and the PSD to, in particular, “give an opportunity to the parties that have always been in the opposition in a constructive way, as is the case of the PAN.”

“For our part, we will not stop presenting proposals for changes so that the causes that we represent here in the Assembly of the Republic are reflected in the State Budget,” he indicated.

Inês de Sousa Real also said that there were already “some signs that the PS decision could move towards viability” of the State Budget, taking into account the political context of the country.”

The leader of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, announced this Thursday that he will propose to the National Political Commission that the party abstain from voting on OE2025, either in the general vote or in the final global vote.

In a press conference at the party headquarters, the leader of the PS justified this decision with only two reasons: the fact that only seven months had passed since the last elections and a possible advantage that would take the country to the third legislative elections in less than three years.

The National Political Commission will deliberate on Monday on this proposal from the general secretary of the PS on the OE2025 vote.
