HBO’s John Oliver rejects calls to send more police to schools: ‘gun control’ solution

Left-wing HBO host John Oliver has rejected calls to send more police to schools, saying greater gun control was the answer after the deadly school shooting in Uvalda, Texas.

HBO’s Sunday edition last week tonightJohn Oliver gave an anti-police speech, citing research that says the presence of police in schools can even encourage shooters to take a more armed approach.

“If school police can make the shooting situation worse, why are we still offering them as a solution?” said. “If you turn it off! When they discover that mosquito repellents attract mosquitoes, they stop selling it, or at least rebrand it as the mosquito-only bachelor’s cologne.”

John Oliver cited an ACLU study that said police have a huge negative impact on schools and students because they can arrest students for things like physical abuse. “It may be more difficult for children with criminal records to get jobs, scholarships and other benefits,” he said.

The British comedian concluded: “School police are not the solution to school attacks” and “gun control is the answer”.

On Sunday, Oliver mocked NRA’s Wayne Lapierre for offering additional funding for police in schools and adding programs for security guards.

“It’s not surprising that the NRA CEO’s decision was to increase the number of people with guns,” Oliver said. “It’s like hearing something like, ‘The landfill is full, so we need more trash,’ from the president of the National Raccoon Association. I mean, what else do you really expect from him?

The comedian also laughs at ballistic or bulletproof blankets in schools.

“What are you saying ?!” said Oliver. Using a blanket is not a strategy for preventing deaths during a shooting at a school. This is not a “bird in the house” approach.
