Crowds gathered along the Royal Mile in Scotland’s capital Edinburgh to pay their respects on Sunday as Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Crowds of mourners lined the streets of towns and cities across Scotland to honor the Queen as her procession made its way to Edinburgh and people in the Scottish capital camped out awaiting the Queen’s arrival.
The coffin is being prepared for transfer to the palace’s throne room, where household staff will be able to pay their last respects to the late Queen Elizabeth, similar to how the coffin was placed in the ballroom at Balmoral.
Britain’s longest-serving woman died on Thursday at the age of 96 at her Scottish country home in Balmoral. Her funeral will be held in London on September 19.
