Adar Poonawala, executive director of the Serum Institute of India, said the institution is currently designing a vaccine for the extremely dangerous dengue fever.
According to him, after two years the work will be finished and the vaccine will be ready to use.
In an interview with NDTV, the director added: “We are working on developing a dengue vaccine. You can check it out in two years. ”
The director of this institute explained that it will be the second drug in the world against this virus infection. He expressed confidence that the effectiveness of the vaccine would be higher in India.
As noted by the World Health Organization, dengue is a viral disease, transmitted by mosquitoes, and has spread rapidly around the world in recent years.
Remember, female mosquitoes carry the virus and transmit it to humans. The number of cases of infection is estimated at 100-400 million annually.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 80% of cases are mild or asymptomatic. But the virus can cause serious illnesses such as the flu that can progress to deadly complications.
In 2015, French subsidiary of pharmaceutical company Sanofi designed the first dengue vaccine. It is registered in 20 countries.
