Gulbenkian’s outdoor art program arrives at Chelas, in Lisbon

The outdoor art project of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation arrives this week in Chelas, Lisbon, with an art installation and an urban art mural signed by the artist António-Pedro with the collaboration of the community of that neighborhood.

On Saturday, the work “4 Olhos”/”4 Odju” will be inaugurated in the Parque da Bela Vista, in Chelas, which consists of a sound and visual installation inside a maritime container and an urban art mural outside .

According to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, this participatory project is signed by the artist António-Pedro and a group of residents from the neighborhoods of Chelas with the collaboration of Nuno Varela, from the associations Chelas é o Sítio, Rimas ao Minuto and Estúdio Kriativu.

The objective of this work of art is to “cross the eyes of those who do not go to the Center for Modern Art [daquela fundação] with the eyes of those who do not go to the neighborhood”, António-Pedro explained in a statement.

The foundation adds that the sound and visual installation in the container “returns to the spectators the elements created during the work process”, and the images will be seen by visitors from the outside, through small openings, “similar to the first cinematographic enjoyment devices”. ”.

In addition to António-Pedro, in “4 Olhos”/”4 Odju” there are Beatriz Lopes, Carlos Rosa, Érica Pinto, G Fema, Jimit Parbote, José Carlos Sampaio, Lucas Araújo, Luís Mateia, Marta Macedo, Nelson David Rosário, Ricardo Teixeira, Sergio Pereira, Tatiana Sousa, Wilson Lopes, and Yannick Landu.

“4 Olhos”/“4 Odju” is the most recent initiative of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s “CAM em Movimento” project, which began last October, when the Modern Art Center was closed for remodeling works.

In October, at the presentation of “CAM em Movimento” to journalists, the director of the art center, Benjamin Weil, explained that the project is a “moment of transition, ideal for experimenting with new forms of exhibition”.

“All we are doing now are experiments to prepare for reopening. Since the art center is closed, we want to get closer to visitors and make the art experience part of everyone’s daily life, ”he explained to the Lusa agency.

The “4 Olhos”/”4 Odju” container will be in Parque da Bela Vista, in Chelas, until December.
