Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told MSNBC’s All In Tuesday that the Republican Party under former President Donald Trump is “trying to violate people’s constitutional rights.”
When asked about Doug Mastriano’s success in the Republican nomination for governor of Pennsylvania, Ruskin said, “I mean, he’s a great candidate even in terms of his public statements. He was an absolute fan and supporter of the uprising. He opposes abortion in all forms, including rape and incest. In fact, he swallowed the entire program of far-rightism. Even Republicans are now struggling to distance themselves from him. But it shows Donald Trump’s eroding influence on Republican voters. It’s notable that many Republicans are even willing to join an extremist fanatic as their party’s nominee.
“He stresses that one of the themes I expect America to hear at our June hearings is that this is not ancient history, or even history. This is living history. That’s our struggle so far. The accomplices and rebels are still there. The Republican Party, under the heel of Donald Trump, is outside the jurisdiction of the constitution.” They do not recognize the legitimacy of elections that have gone in the wrong direction.
