Parliament unanimously mourns the victims of the A1 bus accident

The Assembly of the Republic unanimously approved this Friday a vote of condolence presented by Chega for the death of three people in an accident with a bus leaving Guimarães for Fatima on May 21.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, a bus, coming from Guimarães, with pilgrims from three parishes of that municipality in the district of Braga, bound for the Sanctuary of Fátima, crashed on Highway 1 (A1), in Mealhada ( Aveiro district).

Bus accident on the A1, in the Mealhada area, causes three deaths

The vehicle crossed the opposite lane and hit a light pole, causing three deaths and 33 injuries, six of them with serious injuries and five in critical condition.

The fatalities are the driver and owner (63 years old) of the bus, another 77-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman.

In the vote, the deputies recall this “tragic accident” and express “their sorrow for the death of the victims”.

The Parliament also conveys “the deepest condolences to his family and friends, and to all the members of the Figueiredo parish”.

The Public Ministry opened an investigation to investigate the circumstances of the accident, which “is in charge of the DIAP [Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal] of Mealhada in the Aveiro region”.
